About
The Yarra style done well — bright cherry, savoury edge, fine tannin. Reliable middle of the Yarra Pinot pile.
The vines grow on grey clay loam and gravel at the foot of the Warramate Hills, on an estate planted in 1970. Yarra Yering farms next door, and the same team makes both. That neighbour connection is why a wine at this price gets this much care.
Winemaking stays light. The fruit is hand-picked and ferments on wild yeast with 20 per cent whole bunches in the mix. It matures in French oak, only a tenth of it new, so the redcurrant and rose-petal fruit stays out front.
Drink it now, lightly chilled, with duck or a mushroom risotto. Held five to seven years it moves toward truffle and forest floor.
