About

Langhe blend (Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Pinot Nero) from one of Piemonte's most respected names. Cherry, red fruit, lift. The accessible wine from a serious house.

Aldo Vaira took over this estate in 1968 at fifteen years old, and had it farming organically by 1971, decades ahead of the region. The family now works 40 hectares from their base at Vergne. Langhe Rosso is the wine they make so you do not wait a decade for their Barolo.

The fruit comes from a patchwork of sites across the Langhe hills, from Barolo and La Morra out to Serralunga d'Alba. Nebbiolo leads the blend, with Dolcetto, Barbera and splashes of rarities like Freisa and Albarossa. Each parcel ferments on its own for 15 to 18 days. The finished blend then rests about six months, mostly in stainless steel, so the cherry and raspberry stay bright.

Serve it a touch cool with pasta, charcuterie or mushrooms. It is the weeknight door into a serious cellar.

Producer note

G.D. Vajra is one of Barolo's most respected family producers, based in Vergne.
