About

Poppelvej is the small, McLaren Vale-based label run by Danish brothers Uffe and Jens Deichmann out of Sellicks Beach. This wine's fruit is sourced from the Peacock vineyard in Oakbank, Adelaide Hills, and is made from Pinot Meunier fermented as 25% whole bunch and 75% hand-destemmed, then aged in neutral oak. It's a light, crunchy red with bright juicy acidity and a floral fragrance, with the stalky, peppery edge that whole-bunch inclusion tends to bring — built for a light chill rather than the cellar.

Producer note

Poppelvej was started by Danish sommelier-turned-winemaker Uffe Deichmann and his brother Jens, named for the street in their hometown of Hundested, Denmark. The wines are wild-fermented with no additions beyond a small amount of sulphur at bottling, from vineyards worked organically or biodynamically.
