About

St Andrews is Taylors' flagship, premium range, grown on a single Auburn vineyard within the family's Clare Valley estate — sheltered east-facing slopes chosen specifically for Cabernet, on a property with vines dating to 1891. In 2025 a reviewing critic (Wine Enthusiast) found the 2019 showing luscious black cherry, mocha, dried mint and toasted coconut oak with a touch of bottle age, lovely fresh, tangy fruit and an olive-y savouriness, held in tightly wound tannins — with plenty of life left, recommended to drink until 2034.

Producer note

St Andrews was the last vineyard the Taylor family acquired to complete their 1000-acre Clare Valley estate, after more than twenty-five years negotiating with its original owners. The winery uses precision viticulture — exact harvest timing, frost monitoring and rapid transport to the winery — and only releases vintages that meet its standard.

Cabernet Sauvignon from mature vines — 30 years old at minimum — on classic gravelly loam between the capes, spanning the Yallingup and Wilyabrup sub-regions at 80 to 100 metres. Hand-picked, berry-sorted fruit ferments as whole berries in open fermenters for 20 to 30 days at ambient cellar temperature, then spends 11 months in 225-litre oak barrels before settling naturally in tank and a light filtration. Supple and smooth, with vibrant primary mulberry fruit and dark chocolate. Just 60 dozen made, sealed under wax-topped DIAM.

100% estate-grown Shiraz off McLaren Vale vines averaging 50 years old, fermented in open tanks, hand plunged and matured in French oak hogsheads. The nose is deep and savoury — blackberry, violet, black tea, dried sage and an earthy ferrous edge — while the full-bodied palate runs pepper, cherry, blackberry, plum and cacao over lush tannins and balanced acidity. The cooler 2023 season keeps it graceful rather than heavy, and it will repay a few years in the cellar.

Battle of Bosworth's flagship, made by cordon-cutting the vines so the certified-organic Shiraz dries and concentrates on the vine for ten to twelve days before picking — the Amarone trick, transplanted to McLaren Vale. The result is dense and hedonistic: black fruits, dark chocolate and licorice with leathery notes and a hint of black olive, matured in big old oak so the fruit stays in front. Full-bodied, plush and powerful, with generous tannins and a long finish built for cool nights and hearty food.
