About

Lime zest, lemon and slate drive a focused palate with intense acidity and long persistence. This collaboration brings together Mosel precision (Loosen) with Clare Valley power (Barry), resulting in a structured, site-driven style.

The friendship behind this wine started in 1995, when Ernst Loosen and Peter Barry met in London. Decades on, the two families now make Riesling in each other's style, German methods in Clare and Clare methods in the Mosel. Slate Hill translates the German word Schieferhügel, for the slate ground both families farm.

The winemaking here is pure Mosel thinking applied to Clare fruit. The juice ferments on wild yeasts, then the wine rests on its lees in tank for two years before bottling. Six grams of residual sugar stay behind, though the wine still reads as dry.

Oysters are the obvious match, or any plain fresh seafood with lemon. It will also cellar for years, as good Clare Riesling does.

Producer note

A collaboration between Ernst Loosen (Dr Loosen, Mosel) and Jim Barry (Clare Valley).
