750ml0.5% alc.About
Tamburlaine make this as a full strength organic Pinot Gris first, then remove the alcohol. It still reads as wine rather than grape juice. Ripe pear and green apple lead, with grapefruit zest and a crisp dry finish. The current formula has no added sugar.
The fruit is grown organically in the Hunter Valley and at Orange in New South Wales. Every Tamburlaine block is either certified organic through Southern Cross or in the three year conversion to it.
This is fermented right out as an ordinary wine first, then the alcohol is gently taken away. The aromas and flavours of the original bottling still come through. The current formula has no added sugar and the wine reads dry. Fining is done without animal proteins, so it suits vegans.
Pour it properly cold and treat it like an open bottle of wine rather than a soft drink. It is at its best the day you open it and holds for about three days in the fridge. Grilled prawns with garlic and lemon, goat's cheese tartlets or avocado toast all sit well next to it.
Producer note
Tamburlaine dates back to 1966 and has been owned since 1985 by a small group of friends and relatives led by Mark Davidson, who also heads grape and wine production. It is one of the largest organic wine producers in the country.
