About
Riserva Primitivo from Plantamura — a step up from the soft, jammy Puglian style most customers know. Concentrated dark cherry and plum, savoury herb, fine tannin, real persistence. Primitivo with intent.
Gioia del Colle is Primitivo's higher, cooler home, a plateau inland from the famous coastal zones. The vines grow at around 360 metres on calcareous soil, swept by wind, with sharp temperature drops at night. That altitude is why the wine holds freshness most Primitivo never finds.
Mariangela Plantamura runs the cellar behind the family home while her husband Vincenzo farms their ten organic hectares at low yields. Her grandfather worked these vines before her. The family sold their grapes for decades and only started bottling under their own name in 2002.
The Riserva is the most patient wine in their range. Give it an hour in a decanter, then put it beside roast lamb, grilled meat or a hard cheese.
Producer note
Plantamura is a Puglian producer in the Gioia del Colle DOC zone, focused on quality Primitivo.
