Restrained, balanced, well-made Cab from Adelaide Hills. Mike Press is the master of value cool-climate wines.
Mike Press spent his working life at the top of Australian winemaking before his name went on a label. He worked alongside Max Schubert at Penfolds, moved through Seppelt and Krondorf, and was chief winemaker at Mildara when it won the Jimmy Watson Trophy. His own vineyard came later, high in the Adelaide Hills at Kenton Valley.
The altitude shows in the glass. Blackcurrant and cool mint lead, with fine tannin instead of sheer weight. The 2021 drinks well now with steak, lamb or an aged cheddar, and a few more years in the rack will not hurt it.
