About

Font de la Figuera comes off terraced slopes just north of Gratallops, on the fractured black schist that makes Priorat. Garnacha leads at half the blend, with Cariñena, Syrah and a little Cabernet. Ripe dark fruit, wet slate and graphite, fine dusty tannin, and real freshness behind the power.

This is Priorat from terraced slopes just north of Gratallops, on llicorella, the region's fractured black schist. Vines chase water down through the broken rock, so yields stay tiny and the fruit comes off dense and mineral. The 2019 season ran warm and dry, and the wine carries that ripeness with real freshness behind it.

Christopher and Charlotte Cannan bought the property in 1997 on the advice of René Barbier of Clos Mogador, the man who led Priorat's revival. Barbier's team still farms the vines and makes the wine. Garnacha and Cariñena lead the blend, with Syrah and Cabernet in support. It ferments in stainless steel and used barrels, then rests twelve months in used 500-litre French oak, so fruit and stone stay ahead of wood.

Decant it for an hour and pour it with slow-cooked lamb or a chargrilled steak. It will also cellar happily for years.
