About
Old-vine fruit, savoury character, properly structured. Far from the simple Marlborough red stereotype.
Marlborough means Sauvignon Blanc to most people, but Pinot Noir is the most planted grape at Auntsfield. The estate's old clay hillsides in the Southern Valleys suit the grape especially well.
Vines have grown on this site since 1873, longer than anywhere else in the South Island. David Herd, a Scottish settler, planted the first of them and built Marlborough's first commercial wine cellar here in 1892.
Roast a duck for this bottle, or a tray of field mushrooms. Open it half an hour ahead and serve it just below room temperature.
