About

Single-vineyard Pinot Noir from vines planted in 1998 to the Burgundian 777 clone, aged six months in French oak. Wild strawberries, red and dark cherries and rich autumn fruits are laced with violets and subtle spice over a savoury, earthy undercurrent of beetroot, dried leaves and undergrowth. Medium-bodied and dry, silky with fine, polished tannins, gliding to a long, moreish, slightly herbal finish. Drink now or cellar for five years.

Mike Press Wines pairs a vineyard in the Adelaide Hills with a partnership in the Oliver and Press winemaking facility in McLaren Vale, and has built its name on cool-climate estate-grown wines at an affordable price. Winemaking for this release is by Josh Waechter.

100% Pinot Noir drawn from vineyards across Geelong's key sub-regions — Moorabool Valley, Surf Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula — Hand-picked parcels ferment separately in open fermenters with about 10% whole bunch and gentle punchdowns over seven to ten days, then six months in oak with 15% new. Bright, fruit-driven and floral: vibrant red berries and lifted perfume over fine tannins and subtle savoury complexity, fresh and energetic with impressive natural structure.

Babich's Marlborough Pinot Noir is drawn from the region's prime subregions, all 100% certified sustainable vineyards. The producer's own line sums it up: silky where it should be and expressive where it counts — bright cherry and plum with delicate spice and an earthy undertone, finishing soft and dry. Fermented in open vats with full malolactic fermentation and fined with pea protein rather than animal products, it comes from a family firm that was first to win a New Zealand Gold Medal for Pinot Noir back in the early 1980s and has made this wine since 1997.

Pinot Noir from high-elevation Adelaide Hills vineyards across Monomeith, Uraidla, Piccadilly, Summertown, Little Creek, Basket Range, Scary Gully and Charleston — loamy clay over sandstone strewn with schist and quartz, vines 5 to 37 years old. Hand-picked organic fruit, three weeks in open fermenters at 80% destemmed with a whole-cluster inclusion, then eight months in French oak (15% new) and bottled unfined and unfiltered with just a splash of SO2. Bright red cherries and raspberries with a whisper of herbs and forest-floor earthiness over a core of dark cherry and spice — light, elegant, juicy drinking with soft tannins.
