Laughing Jack is a small family winery at Marananga, on the western ridge of the Barossa. The family has grown grapes in the valley for more than a century, and this blend comes off their own vineyards around Moppa and Greenock.
In the glass it lands medium to full and plush, with a savoury edge of spice and dried herb running under the berry fruit. That savoury line is the Mataro talking, and it is what keeps the wine from being simple.
This is a barbecue wine in the best sense. Pour it with sausages, lamb off the grill or a Friday-night pizza. Drink it over the next few years while the fruit is loud.
