About
Bodegas Caudalía grow Garnacha in the Aibar Valley, in the foothills of the Navarrese Pyrenees, on clay-limestone soils. This wine splits evenly between Garnacha Tinta and Garnacha Roya — a pale mutation of the same grape — fermented in tank and aged five months in concrete, with no oak. It pours medium-light ruby and tastes of red plum, cherry and raspberry, soft on entry with bright acidity running through a long finish.
Producer note
Raquel Grandival Allende and Iván Lopez Barco built the winery in Lerga, a village of 55 people, inside the abandoned cellar of the old Lerga cooperative — they kept its original concrete tanks. It makes around 60,000 bottles a year across 15 hectares, and exports about 80 percent of it.
